Convergence Partners, a strategic partner of the Foundation for a Safe South Africa (FSSA) and its innovative Youthzone projects, visited the project site in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga. FSSA endeavours to prevent crime in South Africa through substantive investment in the social fabric of our society by promoting tolerance and mutual respect. They do this by creating a sustainable cross-cultural network that enables communities to help one another in building safe and empowering societies.
On Friday, 13th May 2011, the Convergence staff met with members of the Siyabuswa community, in particular the soccer players and netballers as well as executives from FSSA to handover a donation of footballs and netballs equipment for the local teams.

May 24th, 2011 | adminInternet Solutions Mozambique (ISM), an investee company of Convergence Wireless Networks (CWN) and Internet Solutions was awarded the prestigious award of best ISP in the business sector in Mozambique. The awards were made following an independent study conducted by PMR.africa, a prominent South African consulting firm, which covered all the major industry sectors in Mozambique.
For this distinction, ISM will receive the coveted Diamond Arrow Award at an awards ceremony on 23 May 2011 in Maputo.
New Dawn Satellite, a picture-perfect lift-off
April 28th, 2011 | adminOn 22 April 2011?Intelsat S.A., the world’s leading provider of fixed satellite services, announced that Arianespace successfully launched the Intelsat New Dawn satellite. The Ariane 5 vehicle lifted off from Kourou, French Guiana, at 5:37 p.m. (EDT), followed by spacecraft separation from the launch vehicle at 6:12 p.m. and signal acquisition at 6:29 p.m.
The Intelsat New Dawn satellite is owned by a joint venture between a consortium led by Convergence Partners and Intelsat. The satellite’s 28 C-band and 24 Ku-band 36 MHz transponder units are designed specifically to supply critical communications infrastructure for African customers, who have experienced exceptional growth along with the development of the region.
FibreCo national network on schedule
April 21st, 2011 | adminFibreCo Telecommunications (“FibreCo”), a partnership between Cell C, Internet Solutions and Convergence Partners, is making excellent progress with its plans for the deployment of its open-access long-haul terrestrial fibre optic broadband network in South Africa.
The project is on track with the geotechnical and environmental studies for the first routes already completed and the tender process moving ahead swiftly. A wide range of other essential elements relating to permitting, engineering, environmental management and development of detailed customer solutions are also ongoing.
SEACOM’s Evolving Network Drives African Internet Growth
April 18th, 2011 | adminLess than two years after completing the undersea portion of the first system to connect Southern and Eastern Africa to the rest of the world via India and Europe, Convergence Partners’ investee company SEACOM continues to drive the growth of the African Internet by rolling-out an Internet Protocol, IP, Platform into its international core network.
The IP Platform project involves the design, deployment and operation of nine land-based Internet access points that will store popular web content closer to where the Internet is accessed, thereby enabling a richer and faster Internet browsing experience for end users. Six of these IP network nodes are already live including Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Maputo, Marseille, Mombasa and Mtunzini.

Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP) 10-year anniversary celebrations held in Johannesburg

The SSP is a scholarship and mentorship programme aimed at identifying and supporting historically disadvantaged scholars that are academically talented and show strong leadership qualities, by funding tuition at some of South Africa’s top high schools. In addition to having their tuition costs covered, the SSP students have the benefit of access to successful people in business and society as their own mentors.

Speaking after President Jacob Zuma delivered his State of the Nation address to Parliament on Thursday, Ngcaba said the measures announced meant that companies could confidently roll out infrastructure such as fibre-optic cables to improve connectivity in the country.
SkillPod’s casual gaming platform off to a cracking start!
February 7th, 2011 | admin“If the first month of 2011 is anything to go by, then the rest of the year is going to be an incredible one” according to Mark van Diggelen – CEO of online and mobile casual gaming business, SkillPod Media, in which Convergence Partners has a strategic equity investment. “We’ve just completed a 7 month period of R&D, where we redeveloped our online and Facebook casual games platforms, adding a host of new features targeted at personalisation, customisation and monetisation.” As a result of this development the response from new and existing clients has been incredibly positive, with 20 new projects already confirmed. These include a number of new casual games portal deployments in the Middle East (these sites have been fully customised to cater for the Arabic language and the reading of content from right to left), UK, USA, Vietnam, Europe and South Africa.
Comsol CEO and Founder, Iain Stevenson participating in Dakar Rally for charity
January 13th, 2011 | adminCEO and founder of Convergence Partners’ investee company, Iain Stevenson from Communication Solutions (Comsol) participates in the Dakar Rally in support of the Cipla Miles for Smiles charity and hopes to give many smiles back to kids. For each R5500 that he collects, a child will receive reconstructive facial surgery.
Unfortunately, Iain suffered a fall on stage 8 of the Dakar and had to withdraw from the race.
