Convergence Partners Chairman, Andile Ngcaba, has been shortlisted for 2012 AfricaCom Personality of the Year Award for his significant impact on the Africa’s telecoms, media and ICT industry. He was selected amongst a record number of submissions for the Award.

In IDC’s South African IT Services Market 2012-2016 Forecast and Vendor Shares report released in September 2012, Dimension Data is positioned as the leading IT services provider in South Africa in 2011, with an estimated 14.4% market share.
Pan-African ICT enabler SEACOM has made a generous commitment to provide KINU, a Tanzanian non-profit ICT innovation hub with 30mb of free Internet capacity for a one year period. This will assist with improving the speed and quality of KINU’s Internet connectivity, which will in turn improve the efficiency of the start-up ICT enterprises they develop.
SEACOM, a pan-African ICT enabler, plans to expand its European connectivity to Amsterdam and will be the latest partner to join the AMS-IX reselling program. Joining the program gives SEACOM the opportunity to make connectivity to the AMS-IX platform more easily available for African Internet companies. Peering and IP interconnection between African and European networks will be greatly enhanced moving forward.
SEACOM, the pan-African ICT enabler, today announced the appointment of Byron Clatterbuck as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) with immediate effect. An industry veteran with more than 15 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry, Byron Clatterbuck has held a number of senior international executive positions during his career, most recently as President of Tata Communications’ Global Service Provider Segment, a company operating the largest private subsea cable system network in the world.
Dimension Data, a global ICT services and solutions provider, today unveiled Dimension Data OneCloud Partner Programme, a global cloud partnership initiative that enables service providers, education institutions, government agencies and trading communities to rapidly bring new cloud services to market. The programme expedites time to market by leveraging the Group’s global Managed Cloud Platform™ (MCP), sales and marketing enablement services, as well as Dimension Data’s Cloud Exchange, allowing an ecosystem of cloud service providers that are able to exchange cloud traffic.
SEACOM is celebrating the third anniversary of its commercial launch on 23 July by giving time and support to communities across Africa. The teams of every SEACOM regional office will be getting out of the office for a day to assist and uplift their local communities.
SEACOM has provided funding towards the development and piloting of a new Swahili and English language application for farmers in Tanzania. This falls in line with SEACOM’s commitment towards fostering the use of ICT for economic development across Africa.
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, today announced an equity investment of $35 million in the Convergence Partners Communications Infrastructure Fund to support more rapid development of information and communications technologies across Africa. The fund is expected to play an important development role in Africa, where ICT infrastructure bottlenecks impede the growth of business and companies lack access to finance, especially risk capital and related expertise from investors that can help businesses succeed.
Convergence Partners released its Annual Report for 2011 financial year, celebrating an exciting and successful first five years of investing in the fast growing African ICT market.
In his Chairman’s report , Andile Ngcaba highlights the beneficially disruptive effects that the flood of broadband infrastructure (international submarine, wireless and satellite infrastructure) will have on the African market. In addition, new technology developments such as LTE, digital terrestrial broadcasting and social media will be making a significant impact on the African ICT landscape.
