
Andile Ngcaba (MComm, Hon DComm) – Chairperson
Andile is the controlling shareholder and non-executive chair of Convergence Partners. He was previously the Director General of the Department of Communications (DoC) for 8 and a half years up until the end of 2003 when he announced his intention to leave Government for the private sector. During his time in Government, Andile oversaw tremendous change in the South African technology and telecommunications landscape, both from the point of view of the diverse and advancing technologies on offer as well as advancements in the overarching regulatory framework.
At the DoC, Andile was responsible for, inter alia, policy formulation, conceptual development and implementation in the ICT Sector. During this time, he assisted foreign governments with their own policy formulation and oversaw a number of significant developments in the ICT Sector in South Africa.
Andile serves as the Executive Chairman of Dimension Data Middle East & Africa, a role in which he has overseen tremendous growth of the business into new markets as well as a number of new strategic initiatives.
In addition to appointments to the boards in investee companies of Convergence Partners, Andile holds and has held a number of positions on global and local bodies.
Brandon Doyle (BCompt Hons, CA (SA)) – Chief Executive Officer
Brandon has run Convergence Partners since inception and was one of the founding partners. Prior to that he spent 5 years with Nedbank where he was head of Investment Banking and an Executive Committee member at Nedbank Capital where his areas of responsibility included Nedbank’s M&A, private equity and deal origination activities.
Prior to joining Nedbank, Brandon was head of Corporate Finance and Project Equity Finance at FBC Fidelity (an empowered small cap bank) for 3 years where he was involved in a number of milestone BEE transactions. Prior to FBC Fidelity, Brandon spent 5 years in the Corporate Finance team of Anglo American.
Stefan Ferreira (BComm Hons, CA (SA)) – Chief Financial Officer
Stefan has been with Convergence Partners since inception and was one of the founding partners. In addition to his role as a senior dealmaker and portfolio manager in the team, he oversees all of Convergence Partners financial management and the middle office team. Prior to joining Convergence Partners he spent 5 years as a senior manager in Nedbank Capital’s Corporate Finance team where he was involved in a large number of M&A transactions including capital raisings, listings, valuations and BEE transactions.
Prior to joining Nedbank, Stefan spent 2 years in the Corporate Finance division of Brait, a dominant South African private equity house.
Idan Segal (B Bus Science (Fin) Hons, CA (SA)) – Executive
Idan has been with Convergence Partners since inception and was one of the founding partners and is a senior dealmaker and portfolio manager in the team.
Prior to the formation of Convergence Partners, Idan was a member of the Nedbank Capital Corporate Finance team for 4 years, during which time he advised on many M&A transactions and capital raisings, as well as several high profile BEE transactions.
Arif Hussain (BSc (Civ Eng), CA (UK), MBA) – Executive and Chief Executive Officer, Convergence Wireless Networks
Arif is responsible for Convergence Partners’ foray into the wireless broadband landscape across the African continent. He was previously a senior member of the MTN management team where he was responsible at various stages for new business development, financial management and business planning across the Group. He was latterly CFO of one of MTN’s largest start-up operations in Iran.
Envir Fraser (BArts Hons; Postgraduate Diploma in Management) Head: Regulatory, Policy & Research
Envir oversees Convergence Partners’ regulatory and policy activities and is responsible for our research function.
Prior to joining Convergence Partners, Envir was the research development and funding manager of the Meraka Institute, a national institution aimed at improving the competitiveness of the South African information and communications technology sector through skills development, research and innovation, in addition to supporting the national priorities of using ICT for social and economic development.
Prior to that, he was employed in the public sector from 1997 where he spent more than 5 years in the ICT policy environment as a senior manager in the Department of Communications.
David Alford (B Bus. Sci. (Fin) Hons; PGDA; CA (SA); CFA)
David was with Nedbank for 5 years where he gained experience in corporate finance, capital markets and treasury management with exposure to the full spectrum of South African corporate activity including deal structuring and BEE transactions.
Yolande Tabo (BCom, PG Dip (Acc), CA (SA)) – Financial Manager
Yolande manages all of Convergence Partners’ middle-office activities. A qualified chartered accountant with IT and media experience, Yolande was previously employed at KPMG and Kagiso Media.
Zandile Dlamini (N. Dipl in Cost & Man Acc)
On completion of her qualification, Zandile worked for an accounting firm for two years then later moved to a BEE construction firm as a junior accountant, until she joined Convergence Partners in 2009 as a member of the middle office team.
